Information
  • Are you a ...?
    Unpublished writer (so far)
What genre do you primarily write in?
    Fantasy
If you write in more than one area, what is your next most favoured genre?
    Horror
    Are your reading habits ...?
    Scary
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
HP Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman
And your all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
The Lord of the Rings (Tolkien), Weaveworld (Barker), The Call of Cthulhu (collective works of HP Lovecraft), The Mist (Stephen King novella), The Liveship Traders (Robin Hobb), Good Omens (Pratchett / Gaiman), Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (Adams)
What are your working habits when you write?
    Procastinatory
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
    Ten times? Why so little?
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
To see my worlds published and allow other people to explore them with me. Simple, really... I just want to share what goes on in my head and be able to do what I love full time!
    Your worst habit?
Overwriting and then beating myself up for it to the point where I am so paralysed by my inner critic that I can't write at all.
Your opinion on the books industry?
It is a tough game, but everyone does their best
    Where do you write?
Everywhere, but mainly on my laptop, in my living room.
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
I am married, have a beautiful baby daughter, 2 cats and am an English teacher by trade. I am also an artist, specialising in fantasy characters. I'm also 190,000 words into a hobbyist novel... shame it's based on the computer game Neverwinter Nights!

Mistress Elysia Actually, scratch that. Two major chapter rewrites done, with three major ones to go AND four major additions to consider. (You know, each time I go to revise this MS, I always seem to end up creating more work for myself than whittling it down... just when I think a section is revised, I think of something else I could do with it, and it all starts again! Is that normal?!)

Antony Big trouble in little china is another one that I enjoy more everytime I watch it... Why don't we get films like that anymore? Shame :(

Mistress Elysia I watched it a couple of days ago when I was feeling crappy, and it instantly made me feel better - then I followed it up with Indiana Jones, and life felt much, much brighter. It's such a shame - nowadays, films seem to be more interested in being cool than being fun. :(

So, to whomever it is - I'm not ignoring you - I just don't know what the message is (apart from the last few words of each line) - it says' ... an audio/video.... ere to accept it.... nore this message.', and I can't move the box, no matter how hard I try! :-( Sorry!

About

Mistress Elysia is a dual-purpose entity; one half is vaguely literate and artistic, the other, a drooling, giggling fangirl with a penchant for big, manly warrior types being big, manly and warrior-ly (what? It's a word...).

When she is not getting caught up in ridiculously long plotlines and beating her muse with various items of cutlery for trying to turn everything she writes into smutty filth / reminding her after she's published a new chapter of the glaring plotholes she oh-so intended to address / for failing to realise that 'S' is quite close to 'D' on the keyboard, thus making it look like she can't sort her tenses out, she likes to draw inappropriate pictures of various characters (usually wearing completely unfeasably skimpy armour. She can't help it. It's habit now.), roleplay and generally procrastinate until she realises that, oh crap, she is supposed to be an English teacher and therefore should get some marking done.

She is also responsible for the Fade NPC mod for Baldur's Gate: SoA. One day, when she isn't sick of the sight of dialogue blocks, feisty redheaded fey'ri rogues or ex-gods called Bhaal, she might even finish it...

I'm fine, except a little bit sniffly and arm not completely healed yet, but almost knitted together again. I have first physio session this afternoon, but am already using it quite a bit. Not sure when I'll be able to drive again, as I haven't power steering on my car and think arm will have to strengthen a bit more. Also won't be playing overhead lobs for a while!! ~(not that I play tennis anyhow!).

Enjoy work tomorrow and, more importantly, today's leisure!

I'm going to do some clearing up and then some writing.

Pleased to hear it, the taking it easy I mean! It's sunny here. Hope the same with you, as a little bit of sunny fresh air should help, if only psychologically!

Glad you like new profile pic. It was taken the other evening in a restaurant in our own village. Meal was a thank you to Mr Jill for being a star since my accident and also in lieu of taverna meals we should have been enjoying in Kefalos right now! Turned out to be a celebration of healing progress too - don't need to see consultant again - just have to start physio this coming week at local hospital. It was a good feeling, being dressed up and without sling for first time!! Jx

Good idea to prompt neighbours first. Bless her - she'll love the whole dressing up thingy, I'm sure. And it is exciting getting goodies from people. I always have a good root through the kids takings, too!
