Information
  • Are your reading habits ...?
    Omnivorous
    Who is your favourite author(s)?
Child, McNab, Tolkein & anybody remember Denis Wheatley? He wrote great historical adventures as well as the more sensational black magic stuff. He was probably Enid Blighton for grown-ups, but I loved the Famous Five when I was a kid, too!
And your seven all time favourite books? (You can change these at any time, by the way ...)
Lord of the Rings; My Son, My Son; On the Beach; Day of the Jackal; Fourth Protocol; any Lee Child; and Andy McNab and Wheatley's Roger Brook (Napoleonic wars) and Gregory Salust (World War II) stories.
What are your working habits when you write?
    Perfectly balanced
Are you the edit-every-sentence-ten-times type, or do you prefer to let rip?
    Some self-editing
    Your ultimate writing ambition?
    Have my third sequal published
    Your worst habit?
Writing long sentences that have to be edited into two or three
Your opinion on the books industry?
It is a tough game, but everyone does their best
    Where do you write?
In my head (and then in my study)
What else do you want Word Clouders to know? eg: do you have 9 cats / like paragliding / eat nothing but tinned fish / work in the bath / live in Kettering?
Brought up in Ulster, married Anita and moved to Woking. Brought up 3 great children who have so far given us 6 grandchildren. Now writing half-time and earning half-time. (No, not the same half!) Looking for agent for 1st novel, To Everything Turn

Wow - Tony, I'm soooooo very jealous of your upcoming adventure. Sounds like nothing but fun. Do think of all of us while you are seeing all the sights, etc. Remember to take loads of pictures. Safe journeys..

I've got a bit of a break coming up. This day fortnight I'll be unpacking in Vegas halfway up the Stratosphere. Not sure, though, if I''l risk the world's highest rolercoaster that overhangs the roof of said resort. I'll be taking in a few shows and ...

Tony, I've just noticed Whisks' comment about the London Book Fair, and she's right. It's a trade event, and the publishers who are there are usually so busy talking to foreign publishers (one of the main intentions of the fair is for UK publishers to sell their foreign rights to foreign publishers), and the agents are so busy talking to all the publishers, that they don't have time to talk to unpublished authors. It is the same story at the Frankfurt Book Fair each October. I have attended both in the past (with my publishing hat on) and each time I felt I needed a month's holiday on a South Sea island afterwards. Gruelling. Frenetic. Crowded. Though, as Whisks says, if you want to see some books with bizarre titles, then you'll be in clover.

Tony, is this is the same "London Book Fair" that I attended a couple of years ago at Earls Court? If so, then I was a little disappointed. Not any failing on the part of LBF, who put on a fine exhibition, but my own flawed understanding of the event. It was aimed at people in the published book trade - ie. book-sellers. It was interesting to see the wide range of books written on esoteric subjects and if you want a case of books on diseases of horses' hooves, then this is for you.

Is there a time on the invitation email the Cloud sent you on 10 February? And if so, could you let me know what it is? Thanks.
